My favourite place in the Gili Islands — and somewhere I'll definitely return to!

Some places you visit, enjoy and tick off your list. And then there are places that completely steal your heart. For me, Gili Trawangan is one of those places. I absolutely loved the Gili Islands, and Gili T is without a doubt one of my favourite places I've ever visited. I'd go back in a heartbeat!

After exploring Bali, arriving on Gili Trawangan felt like stepping into a different kind of paradise. Think white sand beaches, turquoise water, beach swings, laid-back island vibes and sunsets that make you want to sit back and take it all in.

One of the things that makes Gili T so different is that there are no cars or motorised vehicles on the island. Getting around is all part of the experience, with bicycles and horse-drawn carts being the traditional ways to travel. It gives the island a completely different feel.

The beaches were a highlight for me, with beautiful white sand, clear water and those iconic beach swings. It's the kind of place where you can spend the day relaxing by the sea, then enjoy a livelier atmosphere as the evening approaches. From foam pool parties to beach bars and tattoo studios, there's a fun, sociable side to the island that sits alongside its laid-back tropical beauty. Yes… I did come home with a new tattoo!

One of my favourite experiences was taking a day trip to Gili Meno to visit the turtle sanctuary and explore the underwater world.

Snorkelling around the Gili Islands was incredible. Seeing sea turtles swimming in their natural environment, along with colourful fish and fascinating underwater sculpture gardens, made the experience really special. There's something amazing about slipping beneath the surface and discovering a completely different world.

Gili Meno offered a different feel from Gili T, making it well worth the visit. If you have time, I'd definitely recommend considering a trip to another island rather than staying in just one place.

Gili Trawangan gave me that perfect mix of relaxation, adventure, fun and freedom. I think what makes a place special is how it makes you feel. And Gili T is somewhere I absolutely loved being. It's one of those destinations where I can imagine returning and still finding plenty to enjoy. Whether it's another snorkelling trip, cycling around the island, watching the sunset or simply relaxing on the beach, I know there would be more memories to make.

So, is Gili Trawangan somewhere I'd recommend? Absolutely!

In fact, it's not just somewhere I'd recommend to others. It's somewhere I know I'll be going back to myself. 🧡

If you love tropical beaches, snorkelling, island adventures and a mix of relaxation and fun, the Gili Islands deserve a place on your travel wish list.
